Getting baby bunny for B-day any advice? :)?

I am going to get a baby bunny for my b-day and my mom wants to keep it outside because it ''smells to bad'' :P. We live in michigan and its summer now by the time winter comes the baby should be full grown. But is there like a special diet to feed them that dosent make them smell bad because you can do that with ferrets. And also am worried that any wild animal might break the hutch and kill it (Might be over reacting) like ratcoons etc. Are wild animal curious about bunnys?
