Does a standard xbox 360 controller work on PC?

I know i have asked this question before...but i have just one doubt...does a standard xbox 360 controller work on pc? by standard i mean the white model that comes up when you search it (http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?nm_mc=AFC-TechBargains&cm_mmc=AFC-TechBargains-_-NA-_-NA-_-NA&Item=N82E16874103017) Is there any time limit for the production of the model ie do only those controllers that were manufactured, say a year before, will be able to work on pc?
